IZE reported on April 1st that the fantasy romance drama The Remarried Empress will be released on Disney Plus. Filming is set to officially begin between late May and early June.

The Remarried Empress is adapted from a highly popular web novel of the same name. The story follows Navier, the empress of the Eastern Empire, who divorces her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, after his infidelity. She later remarries Heinrey, a prince of the Western Kingdom, and once again rises to the position of empress. The series has garnered a dedicated fanbase and is currently being serialized as a webtoon.

Shin Mina is confirmed to play Navier, and Lee Se Young is set to take on Rashta, the emperor’s concubine. Meanwhile, Lee Jong Suk has been offered the role of Heinrey, and Ju Ji Hoon is in talks to portray Emperor Sovieshu. Neither has signed on the dotted line yet, but things are looking promising in their discussions.

Disney Plus is hoping to bounce back from the scandal involving Knock-Off and Kim Soo Hyun with The Remarried Empress. Having actively invested in Asian content in recent years with series like Big Bet, Moving and Light Shop, Disney Plus is now expanding its portfolio with a historical fantasy romance series. With the global reach of the platform, a trusted cast and a devoted fanbase from the original work, the drama is anticipated to receive an enthusiastic response both domestically and internationally.
