Lee Jun Young, star of Netflix’s latest Korean series Melo Movie, got candid about his approach to romance during a February 19th interview.

The series follows young adults navigating their dreams and romantic aspirations while helping each other overcome personal traumas. In the series, Lee portrays Hong Si Jeon, a self-proclaimed genius who struggles as an unknown composer. He faces an unexpected breakup with his girlfriend of seven years, Son Ju Ah (Jeon So Nee), only to reunite with her five years later when they’ve become a composer and screenplay writer, respectively.

Discussing the show’s ending, where the couple doesn’t reconcile, Lee expressed his support for the decision. “I think it’s an extremely well-crafted ending,” he said. “Speaking as Lee Jun Young, not as the character, if a couple has issues, they’re bound to circle back to the same conflicts. During their time apart, they knew too little about each other, and (by the time they reunited) it seemed too late to get to know each other again, so I think they parted ways beautifully.”

When asked if his thoughts stemmed from personal dating experience, Lee admitted, “Actually, I don’t have much dating experience.” He continued, “From my perspective, I think it was right for them to break up,” adding, “When I read the script, I thought Si Jeon had many shortcomings and didn’t take good care of Ju Ah well. As a viewer, it was only right to let Ju Ah go without making things more difficult for her.”

Regarding his own dating style, Lee revealed, “I’m very considerate. Like Ju Ah in the drama, I tend to completely adjust to my partner,” before adding with a laugh, “But I don’t think I’m as affectionate as Ju Ah.”

All 10 episodes of Melo Movie are available on Netflix.
