Choo Young Woo shared his experience working alongside his role model Ju Ji Hoon at the January 21st press conference for Netflix’s upcoming medical drama The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.

Based on a hit webtoon of the same name, The Trauma Code follows genius military surgeon Baek Kang Hyuk (Ju Ji Hoon) as he arrives to resurrect a struggling trauma center. The series is set for a global Netflix release on January 24th.

Choo, who found many similarities with his character Yang Jae Won, credited the director’s attention to detail for his growth. “The director looked deeper into the character than I did, which helped me grow both as an actor and as a person,” he shared.

Riding high on his star-making turn in JTBC’s The Tale of Lady Ok, Choo addressed his newfound fame: “I’m grateful and honestly a bit dazed to be called the ‘next big thing.’ This is my first time receiving such love, and it still feels unreal.”

When asked about transitioning from being “Lim Ji Yeon‘s man” to “Ju Ji Hoon’s man” on screen, Choo clarified the timeline. “Actually, ‘The Trauma Code’ came first. The growth I experienced here as both an actor and person helped me take on the more relaxed character in ‘The Tale of Lady Ok.'”

Speaking about working with his role model Ju Ji Hoon, Choo revealed, “I focused on learning from his performance and occasionally looked to him for guidance. He always reached out with support. As the youngest and newest actor on most sets, I often feel nervous, but everyone made this such a happy experience.”
