What led two once-loyal friends to face each other as enemies on the battlefield? The newly unveiled main trailer and character posters for Uprising provide a glimpse into this gripping conflict. Directed by Kim Sang Man and produced by the renowned Park Chan Wook, who co-wrote the screenplay with Shin Chul, Uprising delivers a powerful narrative set amidst the chaos of war. The film follows the lives of two childhood friends who become bitter adversaries and is set to premiere on October 11th.
Uprising explores themes of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal, all against the backdrop of class struggles and war. The trailer reveals Cheon Yeong (Kang Dong Won) striving to break free from servitude and reclaim his status. However, his bond with Jong Ryeo (Park Jung Min) crumbles when Jong Ryeo’s family reneges on their promise to set him free. As Gyeongbokgung Palace burns in the background, the friendship between Cheon Yeong and Jong Ryeo deteriorates further, with the chaos of war pushing them to opposing sides. Cheon Yeong joins the militia, earning the fearsome title of “the blue-robed god” due to his unparalleled swordsmanship, while Jong Ryeo rises as a high-ranking military officer consumed by rage toward his former friend.
The character posters introduce the various figures entangled in this story — a slave, a nobleman, a king, a civilian militia member, and a Japanese soldier. Set against a backdrop of civil unrest and war, the intense expressions on each character’s face hint at the emotional conflict and turmoil ahead, leaving viewers eager to witness how they will navigate their fates in the midst of chaos.
Joining them is a stellar cast including Kim Shin Rok as Beom Dong, Jin Seon Kyu as General Kim Ja Ryeong, Jung Sung Il as Genshin and Cha Seung Won as King Seonjo. As the world crumbles around them, each character must navigate their own path through the chaos, fighting against their fate.
Uprising premieres on October 11, exclusively on Netflix.
