Netflix has confirmed the production of its new series As You Stood By and announced an exciting cast lineup featuring Jeon So Nee, Lee Yoo Mi, Jang Seung Jo, and Lee Mu Saeng. The series tells the gripping story of two women who make a life-altering decision to kill or be killed, only to find themselves caught up in an unexpected series of events.
Jeon So Nee, who recently expanded her acting range in Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey, will play Eun Soo, a luxury department store employee who has been haunted by childhood trauma. In a bid to save her friend Hee Soo, who is living in a similarly painful situation, Eun Soo makes a drastic decision.
Lee Yoo Mi, who left a strong impression on audiences with Squid Game and Strong Girl Nam-soon, takes on the role of Hee Soo. Once a promising children’s book author, she now struggles to escape her abusive marriage. When her life turns into a living hell, she joins forces with Eun Soo in a plan to kill her husband.
Jang Seung Jo, who recently gained recognition for his powerful performances in The Frog, will play Jin Pyo, Hee Soo’s husband. His character adds a layer of tension to the series, as he becomes a menacing presence for the two women. Lee Mu Saeng, who has made a mark with standout roles in Netflix’s The Glory and tvN series Maestra, will play Jin So Baek, the head of Jinkang Trading Company. Jin So Baek becomes a crucial ally to Eun Soo and Hee Soo, helping them in their dangerous scheme.
As You Stood By is directed by Lee Jeong Rim, known for her stylish direction in projects like Revenant and VIP, and produced by Studio S, Ghost Studio, and Film Company Miji. The series is based on Hideo Okuda’s novel Naomi and Kanako, which has been praised for its gripping storytelling and suspenseful portrayal of protagonists standing up against violence.
