Director Park Chan Wook’s latest film No Choice (literal title) is set to begin filming on August 17th, with a star-studded cast that includes Lee Byung Hun, Son Ye Jin, Park Hee Soon, Lee Sung Min, Yum Hye Ran, Cha Seung Won, and Yoo Yeon Seok. The cast and crew recently gathered for a ceremony to ensure a safe and successful production.
No Choice is based on the novel The Ax by Donald E. Westlake, a project that Park Chan Wook has been passionate about bringing to the screen. The story follows Yoo Man Soo, a man who once felt his life was perfect until he was suddenly laid off. Desperate to protect his family and their home, he embarks on a personal war to secure new employment.
Lee Byung Hun, reuniting with Park Chan Wook after Joint Security Area and Three… Extremes, will play the role of Man Soo, a father struggling to reclaim his life after being fired from a paper company where he worked for 25 years. Lee Byung Hun is expected to deliver a powerful performance, portraying a man on the edge, fighting for his family.
Son Ye Jin joins the project as Man Soo’s wife, Mi Ri, marking her first collaboration with both Park Chan Wook and Lee Byung Hun. Known for her versatility and charm, Son Ye Jin will bring to life a strong, multifaceted character who stands by her husband’s side, even as their world is turned upside down.
Rounding out the cast, Moving actor Park Hee Soon will portray Choi Seon Chul, a foreman at the paper company, while Lee Sung Min, fresh off hits like Reborn Rich and 12.12: The Day, takes on the role of Koo Beom Mo, another unemployed job seeker like Man Soo. Yum Hye Ran, known for her roles in The Glory and Mask Girl, will play Beom Mo’s wife, Ara. Believer star Cha Seung Won is set to play Go Si Jo, another of Man Soo’s competitors, and Hospital Playlist star Yoo Yeon Seok joins as Oh Jin Ho, a dentist who works with Mi Ri.
With this stellar lineup, No Choice promises to be a standout addition to Korean cinema, blending Park Chan Wook’s visionary direction with the talents of some of Korea’s finest actors.
