Following its press screening, the highly anticipated film Revolver has been showered with praise, touted as a must-watch for stellar performances. The release of new stills featuring Jeon Hye Jin, Lee Jung Jae, and Jung Jae Young has further heightened expectations.
Revolver tells the story of Soo Young, a former cop who, after serving time in prison for taking the heat for a crime she didn’t commit, embarks on a singular mission upon her release.
Jeon Hye Jin takes on the role of Grace, a mysterious power player and sister to the unruly Andy (Ji Chang Wook). Grace, the head of Eastern Promise, manipulates everything in her orbit, except for her troublemaking brother. As a formidable adversary to Soo Young, Grace operates swiftly and silently from the pinnacle of power. Director Oh Seung Wook praised Jeon, saying, “Her ability to convey an ambiguous expression, leaving you unsure if she’s smiling or crying, was astonishing. I wanted to give her an applaud.”
Global star Lee Jung Jae, known for The Acolyte and Squid Game, plays Seok Yong, who vanishes along with the truth. Once Soo Young’s lover, Seok Yong was involved in framing her for corruption. Despite visiting Soo Young in prison from time to time, he eventually disappears, leaving her heartbroken and confused. Director Oh remarked, “He excellently captured the character’s inherent loneliness.”
Veteran actor Jung Jae Young embodies Min Ki Hyun, a former superior of Soo Young and Seok Yong, who is now a frail yet sharp-eyed police captain. When he sees Soo Young embark on a long journey to reclaim what she was originally promised, he hands her a revolver, setting her on her path. Despite his weakened state, Jung’s portrayal brings Ki Hyun’s charisma to life. Director Oh expressed his gratitude, saying, “He perfectly portrayed a character corroded and worn down by illness so well.”
Meanwhile, Revolver will hit theaters on August 7th.
