Kang Kyung Joon, actress Jang Shin Young’s husband, has issued a public apology regarding allegations of his involvement in an extramarital affair.
On the 24th, Kang Kyung Joon released a lengthy statement, saying, “I apologize for the distress caused to many people due to an unfortunate incident earlier this year. I feel heavy-hearted for disappointing those who have supported me and my family.”
Kang explained, “After the issue was reported in the media, I remained silent because I feared that any statement or action on my part might further hurt the other party involved and those around them. However, I now regret that my silence may have caused even more harm to many people.”
The Seoul Family Court held the first hearing of a damages lawsuit filed against Kang Kyung Joon by a plaintiff, A, on the 24th, approximately one month after the lawsuit was filed. During the trial, which was closed to the public, only the legal representatives were present.
The court has issued a judgment by “recognition and acceptance” in the case. “Recognition and acceptance” means that the defendant acknowledges the plaintiff’s claims and agrees that the plaintiff has the right to the relief sought. Essentially, this means that Kang Kyung Joon has accepted the demands made by the plaintiff, A.
A had filed a lawsuit in December last year, claiming 50 million KRW (approximately 38,000 USD) in damages for emotional distress, alleging that Kang Kyung Joon had an affair with his wife.
Kang further clarified, “The media reports included only parts of the statements made by the parties involved in the lawsuit, and not all the facts were accurately represented. While there are inaccuracies and aspects that require clarification, I believed that the misunderstandings and criticisms were a result of my own shortcomings. I decided that accepting these consequences was my responsibility.”
He continued, “Since the lawsuit was filed, I have made efforts to reach an amicable agreement with the other party. However, we were unable to reach a satisfactory conclusion, and the matter had to be resolved through the court. I chose not to contest the claims or engage in legal disputes to avoid causing further emotional distress to the other party and discomfort to those who support me.”
