Psychiatrist and television personality Yang Jae Woong has officially closed his mental health clinic following a controversial patient death and a subsequent government-ordered suspension.

Yang completed the formal closure of the facility on April 1st, according to the Bucheon City Health Center. Since all patients had already been discharged or transferred during a prior business suspension, no further emergency relocation was required.

Yang first opened the 169-bed clinic in 2010, specializing in the treatment of alcohol addiction. However, the hospital’s reputation collapsed in May 2024 after a patient in her 30s, who was being treated for diet pill addiction, died of an “acute pseudo-obstruction” of the small intestine just 17 days after being admitted.

The incident sparked national outrage after investigations revealed that medical staff had physically restrained the patient and administered heavy sedatives while allegedly neglecting her deteriorating physical condition. In November 2024, the attending physician and four nurses were indicted on charges of professional negligence resulting in death. While Yang himself was not among those initially detained, he has faced intense public scrutiny and a separate investigation into his management’s responsibility.

The fallout has also impacted Yang’s personal life. He was previously engaged to Hani, a member of the popular K-pop group EXID, but the couple indefinitely postponed their wedding as the legal battle and public backlash intensified.
