Kim Jae Joong and Kong Seong Ha have been revealed to be in Japan, working on an upcoming occult horror film, as reported by Yahoo Japan on March 22nd (local time).

The film, tentatively titled Shrine (literal title), marks the fourth project by the mystery genre-specialized production company, Mystery Pictures. The entire filming process is taking place in Japan, with shooting expected to continue until late March. The recent success of the movie Exhuma, which sparked a renewed interest in the occult genre within Korea, further amplifies the excitement for Shrine.

Shrine is centered around three college students who vanished after visiting an abandoned shrine in Japan. A shaman (Kim Jae Joong) and his college friend (Kong Seong Ha) delve into the mystery surrounding the evil spirit involved.

Notably, Shrine is director Kazuyoshi Kumakiri’s first Korean film. Kumakiri’s 658km, Yoko no Tabi, distinguished for its refined direction, garnered three awards at the 2023 Shanghai International Film Festival, winning Best Film, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay. Additionally, this acclaimed work earned invitations to the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival and the 27th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, heightening anticipation for Shrine.

In addition, NCT127’s Jaehyun recently completed a successful dome tour in Japan and has joined the cast of Shrine, sparking further discussion. This film represents his first lead role in a movie, where he portrays a young man tormented by his ability to foresee future murders, garnering significant fan interest.
