IU is hitting the right note not just in her music but also in philanthropy as she celebrates her 15th year in the industry. Under the combined name IUAENA (IU and UAENA), the singer has donated a whopping KRW 300 million (approximately USD 256,000) to the vulnerable sectors in medical and welfare communities.
EDAM Entertainment announced on the 18th, “Today, IU has donated a total of KRW 300 million to Asan Medical Center, Korean Society Of Child Welfare, and Seoul Child Hospital.” This donation is even more special as it falls on the singer’s 15th debut anniversary.
Asan Medical Center plans to allocate IU’s contribution to medical and welfare gaps, aiding youth and female cancer patients. The Korean Society Of Child Welfare intends to use the funds for projects to enhance children’s environments, including restoring facilities damaged by typhoons. Seoul Child Hospital will assist marginalized communities by covering medical costs while also focusing on rebuilding a developmental center to improve the treatment environment.
IU is no stranger to giving back. Dubbed an “angel donor” in the business, she has consistently contributed to various causes since her debut. Her fandom UAENA has also played a crucial role in the positive cycle of giving. Speaking about the donation, IU shared through her agency, “This has been possible thanks to the unreserved support from UAENA. I am genuinely happy that I can participate in sharing warmth in the community.”
She further added, “We’ve made precious memories and invaluable experiences together as IUAENA. These give me great motivation, and I want to pay the love forward. I believe this can be a starting point for small changes for someone.”
Meanwhile, IU is keeping busy shooting her new drama You Have Done Well (literal title). She’s also gearing up for her fan concert “2023 IU Fan Concert 1+UN1VER5E” at Seoul’s KSPO Dome on the 23rd and 24th.
