Coupang Play has confirmed its most anticipated series of 2023, Boys’ Generation (literal title), in the latter half of the year.
This upcoming Coupang Play exclusive series is set in an agricultural high school in South Chungcheong Province in 1989, following the tale of loner Byung Tae, whose life goal is to live without getting punched. The story unravels as he becomes the No. 1 fighter on campus one day.
First up, Yim Si Wan takes on the role of Jang Byung Tae, a loner mistaken as the school’s top dog on his first day of transfer. Known for captivating audiences at the Cannes Film Festival with his performances in The Merciless and Emergency Declaration, not to mention his acclaimed work in dramas like Misaeng and Run On, Yim promises to bring his versatile talent, flipping between timidity and audacity, heralding the birth of another iconic character.
Joining the cast is Work Later, Drink Now star Lee Sun Bin, playing Park Ji Young, who goes by the nickname “Black Spider of Buyeo.” Rising stars Lee Si Woo and Kang Hye Won step into the roles of Jung Kyung Tae, the “White Tiger of Asan” who ruled the school, and Kang Seon Hwa, the girl who charms all the male students, respectively.
Directed by the hit-maker Lee Myung Woo, known for his works like The Fiery Priest, Backstreet Rookie, and Coupang Play’s series One Day, Boys’ Generation has been in production since June this year. With its thrilling plot and unique Chungcheong Province-style humor, it promises to deliver a never-seen-before refreshing entertainment experience.
