Shin Hye Sun has breathed life into a compelling new character.
The film Target, starring Shin Hye Sun, Kim Sung Kyun, and Kang Tae Oh, combines the very real theme of second-hand trading with everyday suspense.
Ahead of its release, Target has unveiled a glimpse into Shin Hye Sun’s character, Soo Hyun, who becomes the target of a crime soon after buying something second-hand online. Shin Hye Sun takes us on a roller coaster ride from being the most ordinary office worker to becoming the target of the most dangerous crime.
Soo Hyun is the team leader of an interior design company, a resilient character who doesn’t even back down to the rugged construction workers. Although she is stressed by her superior at work and a broken washing machine at her new house, she maintains her poise and persistently handles her daily life. However, everything begins to crumble after she becomes a victim of fraud in a single second-hand trade. Her rage, exhilaration, fear, despair, and desperation as the target of a crime are all brought to life by Shin Hye Sun’s nuanced and powerful performance.
Shin Hye Sun shared, “I decided to play Soo Hyun because she seemed realistic and not merely a weak victim, but someone who tries to deal with the situation. I wanted to cheer for her.” She added, “Soo Hyun is the most realistic character I’ve ever played. She seems like someone who could be living an ordinary day-to-day life in Korea. I found her daily routines and emotional changes extremely relatable.”
Director Park Hee Gon praised the actress, saying, “Shin Hye Sun was our number one choice. It must be a challenge to set and synchronize the gradual emotional changes a normal employee undergoes when she becomes a crime target. But every day on set, I was amazed by Shin Hye Sun’s performance.”
Meanwhile, Target will hit theaters on August 30th.
