After nearly four years away from the limelight, Lee Dong Gun is making a return with a new project, gaining attention as he candidly discusses his life post-divorce during the show’s press conference.
Lee attended the press conference for the new Netflix series Celebrity, held on the 26th. His presence marked his first official appearance since starring in the 2019 drama Leverage. It also serves as his first official appearance after his divorce from actress Jo Yoon Hee in 2020.
As attention naturally focused on the actor during the conference, he openly discussed his time away from the industry. He talked about the importance of being there for his daughter. “I wanted her not to feel the absence of her father, so I spent most of my time and heart being with her,” he shared candidly.
He further expressed his joy at being a part of Celebrity, “I am very pleased and happy to be able to participate in this vibrant and dazzling project,” he commented.
Lee married Jo in 2017, and they welcomed a daughter later that year. Three years later, the couple divorced by mutual consent in 2020. Currently, the mother has custody of their daughter Roa.
Jo Yoon Hee revealed her life as a single mom raising Roa after her divorce in 2021 in the variety show Brave Solo Parenting: I Raise. She even surprised viewers by preparing a birthday cake for her ex-husband, which was a fresh sight for the viewers.
The actress shared then, “There’s never been any inconvenience regarding the father. Roa talks about her father a lot. She meets him every Sunday, and we talk about him every Saturday night. Making a cake for her father’s birthday is not a burden for me since Roa’s father is a precious part of Roa’s family.”
Regarding Lee’s reaction to receiving the cake, Jo conveyed, “I got a message saying he was very grateful. I think he will cherish it as a lifelong memory since Roa gave him his first-ever birthday celebration.”
Though their marital bond sadly ended, the couple’s responsible co-parenting has been a topic of conversation. As public figures, both have faced challenges but chose to openly discuss these matters, which showcased their maturity.
Meanwhile, Lee’s comeback project Celebrity will premiere on the 30th. Jo Yoon Hee is set to return to her acting career with SBS’s new drama 7 Escape penned by The Penthouse Kim Soon Ok.
