EXO member Kai shed tears during a live broadcast on social media as he announced his military enlistment.
Kai said, “I just received news of my enlistment today, and it was quite sudden. I couldn’t help but worry about my fans. Even though I won’t have much time to rest, I really want to see my fans before I go. I miss you all so much. Honestly, I don’t have any experience with this, so I don’t really know how to prepare. But time flies by so quickly, and I promise to be back in no time. Please look forward to my return.”
The disappointment was even greater as EXO had planned to make a full-group comeback. Kai expressed his feelings, saying, “We had prepared so much for our upcoming activities, and it’s such a bummer that we won’t be able to show everything we had planned. But where would I go? I’ll be back before you know it, and we won’t have to be apart anymore. Until then, I’ll be giving it my all.”
SM Entertainment officially stated on this day, “Kai was preparing for EXO’s comeback scheduled for this year, but due to recent changes in military service regulations, he will be entering the army training center on May 11th and will then serve as a social service worker after receiving basic military training.” They continued, “We respect his desire to quietly enter the training center on the day of his enlistment and will not disclose the location or time. There will be no separate event on the day, so we ask for fans’ understanding.”
EXO had planned to make a full-group comeback around five years after Baekhyun’s discharge from the military in February. However, Kai’s military service has caused a setback to those plans.
