Kill Boksoon topped the global Netflix list in the non-English language film category, just three days after its release.
The movie tells the story of legendary contract killer Gil Bok Soon, who gets caught up in an inevitable set of events before renewing her contract with her company. It topped the list in countries like South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Vietnam, and made it into the top ten in 82 countries, including Canada, Germany, Spain, and Brazil.
Kill Boksoon is currently receiving high praise from both domestic and overseas media and viewers. Guardian praised, “Writer-director Byun Sung Hyun, an up-and-coming director, handles the action sequences with real flair, but does an even better job limning the complex, sometimes fraught relationships – especially the mother-daughter one between Boksoon and Jae Yeong.”
Korean media The Daily Sports reported that Byun’s unique directing skills that are witty and stylish shone throughout the film.
Screen Daily said, “Overall, it’s serviceable stuff that, like Boksoon herself, struggles with the emotional connections in life, but sure knows how to land a punch.” Film journalist Lee Eun Seon described the work itself as the essence of Jeon Do Yeon.
Paste Magazine commented, “Kill Boksoon is a stylish and slick action film, featuring exhilarating fight sequences and cool camera angles to amp up the drama.”
