The upcoming Netflix series 20th Century Girl stars posed for the upcoming youthful pictorial of ELLE Korea.
Set in 1999, 20th Century Girl is about a teen girl who keeps close tabs on a boy in school on behalf of her deeply smitten best friend – then she gets swept up in a love story of her own.
Kim Yoo Jung plays Bo Ra, a girl who plays cupid for her best friend Yeon Du. “I’ve always liked the retro vibe, and it was nice to play a role in the slow-moving era,” the actress shared. “And I especially like the 80s and 90s songs, and Park Ki Young’s ‘Start’ appears in the movie, so I got to have a lot of fun.”
Un Ho, Bo Ra’s broadcasting clubmate and Yeon Du’s crush, is played by Byeon Woo Seok. “When I fall in love, I solely focus on that person, like Un Ho,” he shared. “When I find someone I like enough to risk everything, I tend to persevere through even the most difficult moments.”
Park Jung Woo turns into Yeon Du’s first love Hyun Jin. “I learned a lot while playing Hyun Jin, a (mentally) healthy person,” the actor commented. “He taught me that the moments when I express my emotions are the moments that I truly exist.”
Roh Yoon Seo, who plays Yeon Du, talked about playing a role in an era she had never experienced. “Though I didn’t experience it myself, I was familiar with it through movies and songs, so I didn’t feel too distant,” she said. “Also, the costumes and props that show the sensibility of the times helped me concentrate on my performance.”
