The new Netflix movie 20th Century Girl had its successful premiere at the 27th BIFF.

Set in 1999, 20th Century Girl is about a teen girl who keeps close tabs on a boy in school on behalf of her deeply smitten best friend – then she gets swept up in a love story of her own. The movie quickly became one of the most highly-anticipated movies after it was released at the BIFF.

A reporter from iMBC praised, “The movie blended first love with the end of the 20th century, creating a project that’ll be imprinted on the youth as ‘Korea’s representative movie about first love.’ So far, the best ‘first love’ movies loved by domestic movie fans were produced in China, but with 20th Century Girl, the Korean film will be able to take its place.”

Another reporter wrote, “The materials that pass on the story rail seem to dribble a drop or two of memories in the hearts of 21st-century aunties and uncles who are now living their 40s.”

The audience’s responses are also hot. Many Twitter and Instagram reviews poured out – “A beautiful, naive and sparkling movie,” “The pure youth in that ear always makes me nostalgic,” “If this is first love, I don’t have first love,” and “It’s such a playful, pretty, and lovely movie.” “You’ll find yourself smiling while watching it.”
