At the 2021 Asia Artist Awards held in December last year, Cha Eun Woo won the Emotive Award with his drama True Beauty. This was the result of six years of hard work. Recently, the star sat down with Starnews to share his thoughts on winning the award.
Recalling the time, Cha shared, “I was twice happy to win the award both as a singer and as an actor. It was so meaningful to have my members congratulating me right in front of me. “Emotive” means that I’ve conveyed my emotions (to the people). I’ll become an actor and singer that delivers more emotions.”
He revealed that he was hesitant to appear in True Beauty. “Actually, I felt pressured to play a role that already has an original character,” he explained. “I wanted to show a new side of me, and I played the role while discussing with the writer and director.”
Before joining his agency Fantagio, Cha had zero interest in becoming a celebrity. “Looking back to the time I made my debut, I’ve achieved many things. I’ve won a lot of awards and won first place. I’ve always tried my best, but I didn’t know anything at the beginning. I didn’t know anything about the idols either. Others enter this industry because they like to sing and dance. But I started everything after joining the agency, so it was all new,” he recalled.
He expressed his gratitude to Master in the House, the variety show he appeared in for about a year from 2020. “I actually like variety shows. I like shows where you get to show a new side of yourself or the real self, and I also like hanging out with people,” Cha said. “The members were also great people. Master in the House is about visiting the masters of each field and learning from them, so I get to experience a lot and learn from the people. It helped me to grow as a person with a bigger heart.”
Cha Eun Woo is currently showing Island. It’s a new fantasy drama based on the webtoon of the same name and stars Kim Nam Gil, Lee Da Hee, and Sung Hoon. “I have so much fun at the filming sites, and it’s really fun to play the role of Yohan. We (the cast) are all very close too. I have to go shoot at Jeju Island again, so all my interest revolves around the Island now,” he commented.
He added, “I’ve always wanted to showcase a new image. I’ve always shown this one image of me. Rather than always getting spotlights for my looks, I wanted to show a new side of me.”
When looking back on the year 2021, Cha confessed that the best thing he did was ASTRO’s music show win. “I really wanted to win the trophy. I’ve hosted MBC’s Music Core for a long time. I’ve only handed trophies to others at the time, so it was amazing to receive one.”
Lastly, Cha said that his goal is to make it into Hollywood. “My dream is to make it into Hollywood. Now all the content is released worldwide, don’t they? So I want to experience bigger things in new places.”
