According to media outlets, Sung Hoon has been offered the male lead in the Korean remake of Jane the Virgin. Earlier, it was reported that Im Soo Hyang started reviewing the offer she received to star as the heroine of the work.

Jane the Virgin is a comedy-drama that revolves around a character who wishes to keep her virginity until she gets married. During a regular checkup with a doctor, she’s mistakenly inseminated and ends up pregnant with the child of a chaebol.

The original American series is a loose adaptation of the Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen. Starring Gina Rodriguez, the series aired a total of five seasons on The CW. At the 72nd Golden Globe Awards, Jane the Virgin was nominated for Best Television Series (Musical or Comedy), and Rodriguez won Best Actress (Television Series Musical or Comedy). The show also received a Peabody Award in 2014 and was selected as one of the top 10 television programs of 2014 by the American Film Institute.

If the two join the project, they will each play Kim Bok Rae and Bae Ji Eun.

Kim Bok Rae, played by Sung Hoon, is a plastic surgeon who goes by the name “Rafael.” He used to be a playboy who only dated actresses. But since overcoming cancer, he has chosen to become a better man. In the process, he asks for a divorce to find true happiness.

Im Soo Hyang is in talks to play Bae Ji Eun, an assistant writer for a soap opera. She’s a daughter of a single mother, and her grandmother had stressed “chastity before marriage” her entire life. Now, she’s in a relationship with a good man who cherishes her values.

Sung Hoon and Im Soo Hyang both made their debut with the 2011 drama New Tales of Gisaeng. And 10 years later, they will most likely reunite in the new romance series.

Meanwhile, the Korean version of Jane the Virgin is penned and directed by Jung Jung Hwa. The filming will begin in September.
