Actress Youn Yuh Jung mentioned that her son was worried about her attending the Academy Awards ceremony.

In an interview with Forbes magazine, she said, “My two sons are Korean Americans living in the states. My son living in LA is worried about me coming to the states for the Oscars because I might get hurt on the street.”

The actress continued to explain by quoting her son’s concerns, “You’re an old woman. They’re aiming at elderly women. Can’t you have a security guard or something?” Then she added, “It’s terrible. My son’s worrying about me becoming the victim of the hate crime.”

She rose as a strong candidate for the Best Supporting Actress of the 93rd Academy Awards, as she wins the other awards at the SAG and BAFTA. She opened up about her feelings, “It’s unreal to me because nobody had been nominated for an Academy Award in Korean history. In a way, it’s sad, but I’m very grateful. Life is full of surprises.”
