KBS’s upcoming variety drama Imitation (literal title) has announced its jaw-dropping cast.
On Oct. 16, KBS confirmed that the cast includes Parasite actress Jung Ji So; ATEEZ’s Yunho, Seonghwa, Jongho, and San; SF9’s Chani and Hwiyoung; U-KISS’s Jun; T-ara’s Jiyeon; former I.O.I and PRISTIN member Lim Nayoung; Yuri; Ahn Jung Hoon; Minseo; Boys’ Republic’s Suwoong; g.o. d’s Danny Ahn; and Shim Eun Jin.
Based on the webtoon of the same name, Imitation is about the lives of idols in the entertainment industry, centering around several fictional idol teams – top boy group SHAX, a rising rookie girl group named Tea Party, a passionate boy group named Sparkling, and more. The drama adaptation will be directed by Han Hyun Hee, best known for Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung and Solomon’s Perjury, and written by Choi Sun Young and Kim Min Jung.
First, joining the cast for girl group Tea Party are Jung Ji So, Minseo, and Lim Nayoung. Jung Ji So plays the group’s main dancer Maha, who is also branching out into acting. Lim Nayoung takes on the role of Hyun Ji, the former center and visual of Tea Party, while Minseo plays Ria, the leader and the main vocalist.
T-ara’s Jiyeon has been cast as Larima, the top solo artist.
A mixture of actors and actual idols/rookie actors have been cast for two main boy groups, SHAX and Sparkling. U-KISS’s Jun, SF9’s Chani and Hwiyoung, ATEEZ’s Jongho, Yuri, and Ahn Jung Hoon will become members of SHAX, whereas ATEEZ’S Yunho, Seonghwa, and San, and Boys’ Republic’s Suwoong transforms into Sparkling.
SHAX is a top boy group that rules the music charts. U-KISS’s Jun will play the group’s center member, Kwon Ryoc who has excellent talents, handsome looks, and endearing clumsiness. Chani will play former member Eun Jo, who is both a friend and rival of Ryoc. Jongho will play Hyuk, the youngest member and main vocalist of the group, while Hwiyoung plays Yihyun, the vocalist and producer. Yuri and Ahn Jung Hoon will join SHAK as Do Jin and Jae Woo.
Yunho plans on appearing as Sparkling’s sweet center member Yoo Jin, while Suwoong will play Sparkling’s former center, Hyun Oh. Seonghwa and San take on the roles of Min Soo and Se Young, respectively.
g.o. d’s Danny Ahn and former Baby V.O.X member Shim Eun Jin join Imitation as Tea Party’s agency CEO and a persistent reporter.
Imitation will air in the first half of 2021.
