The Closet, the latest mysterious horror film starring Ha Jung Woo and Kim Nam Gil, ranked No.1 in the daily box office for three days in a row since its release (Feb. 5th). It’s a quite surprising performance because many Korean movie-goers have almost stopped visiting the cinemas to avoid getting infected with the new Coronavirus.

According to an official total of the Korea Box-office Information System (KOBIS), run by the semi-government body Korean Film Council (KOFIC), The Closet was watched by 102,748 audiences only on Friday (Feb. 7th). This film started as a top-ranker with 96,640 audiences on the release day (Feb. 5th) and retained its throne the next day (Feb. 6th) with the daily 86,396 audiences. Thus the headcounts of cumulative audiences for The Closet recorded 294,573 for these three days.

The Closet would probably keep its box office crown this weekend as well. Despite of the fears against Coronavirus, its headcounts of cumulative audiences are expected to rise sharply over 700,000 during Saturday and Sunday.
