The “Don’t go out” phone cases, designed and created by rapper Lee Young Ji, recorded 100 million KRW (about 90,952 USD) in sales in just 7 hours.
On Dec 18, Lee Young Ji posted pictures of her “Don’t go out” phone cases on her Instagram Story and wrote, “You gonna buy this? I’m gonna donate all the proceeds. So buy it if you wanna buy it.”
On the back of the phone cases produced by Lee Young Ji, there are comments encouraging social distancing, such as “Can you not go out if they tell you not to go out?” and “Don’t go out if they tell you not to.” Cute phrases and characters drawn by Lee Young Ji herself also catch the eye.
As fans who sympathized with her purpose poured out their positive reviews, more than 1,000 phone cases were sold in 15 minutes. Since then, the sales skyrocketed to 36 million KRW (about 32,742 USD) in just one hour and recorded 100 million KRW (about 90,952 USD) in just 7 hours.
Eventually, Lee Young Ji wrote, “It’s awesome that everyone bought this with a good heart, but you guys bought so much more than I expected. Unless you want the cases delivered a year later, time to stop. I’ll stop selling at 9 p.m.”
