Production has begun on The Hit List, a Korean period action thriller from Project Wolf Hunting director Kim Hong Sun, with an ensemble cast led by Jung Woo Sung, Jung Sung Il, Baek Yoon Sik and Wi Ha Jun.
Based on the Kakao webtoon of the same name, which has amassed more than 120 million cumulative views, The Hit List is set during Korea’s Joseon Dynasty and blends historical events with fictional characters and a revenge-driven narrative.
The story centers on Han Myeong Hoe (Jung Woo Sung), a powerful political figure who has consolidated his authority through bloody purges; Baek Yi Hwa, a woman who loses everything to him and becomes a vengeful figure known as Yagwi; and Jang Gil Do, Han’s right-hand man and one of Joseon’s most formidable warriors.
Jung stars as Han Myeong Hoe, a ruthless strategist and skilled fighter willing to sacrifice anyone to maintain his grip on power. Jung Sung Il plays Ban Seok, a man seeking revenge against Han who works with a secret organization called Hwajeopmong to bring him down.
Baek Yoon Sik portrays Ji Hak, a former master swordsman turned blacksmith who has withdrawn from society. Once regarded as Joseon’s greatest warrior, he trained Baek Mu Han (Choi Mu Sung), who has since inherited that reputation. Wi Ha Jun takes on the role of Grand Prince Suyang, an ambitious royal determined to seize the throne.

The supporting cast includes Choe Gwi Hwa as Han’s ruthless confidant, Park Ji Hwan and Choi Daniel as loyalists fighting to restore the deposed King Danjong, Choi Mu Sung as Han’s childhood friend and master swordsman, and Go Chang Seok as military commander Kim Jong Seo. Jo Bok Rae, Hyun Bong Sik and Lee Sung Wook also star.
Casting has yet to be announced for two central characters: Baek Yi Hwa, who seeks revenge while uncovering the secrets behind Han’s list of assassination targets, and Jang Gil Do, Han’s chief enforcer and a formidable swordsman.
Kim, whose credits include Traffickers, Criminal Designer, Metamorphosis and Project Wolf Hunting, most recently directed and executive produced the third season of the British crime series Gangs of London. He is also represented by Hollywood talent agency WME.
The production has enlisted international crew members, including cinematographer Lars Cox, whose credits include House of the Dragon, The Witcher and Netflix’s live-action One Piece, and gaffer Kieran Waites, who worked on Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and the Fast & Furious franchise.
The Hit List is currently filming, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.
