Heo Nam Jun is setting the record straight on his recent dating rumors with Hong Iseol — and he admits the whole thing caught him off guard.
On June 19th, the actor sat down for an interview following the finale of SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama My Royal Nemesis.
During the interview, Heo named Kim Mu Yul as his role model, sharing that he has long admired the actor.
“He’s known for taking great care of everyone, even actors with very small roles,” Heo said. “During ‘Sweet Home,’ when an extra actor came to the set for the first time, he spent time getting to know them in the waiting room. He bought them ice cream and made sure they came into his room, saying, ‘Come hang out with us.’ He really looks after people.”
Heo continued, “The way he works, and even the way he’s devoted to his family, is perfect. He really has it all. I feel like he’s living the kind of life I think a good person should live. And he’s great at his job too. He’s perfect.”
Fresh off the successful run of My Royal Nemesis, Heo is already looking ahead to his next project, tvN’s upcoming drama Whale Star (literal title). His casting has drawn attention for his strong resemblance to the original character.
“There’s definitely pressure to perform well because of that,” Heo said. “One thing I can say for sure is that compared to Se Gye, this character is much more mature. He has a lot of restraint. He’s not a runaway train — he’s more grown-up. What they have in common is that they both carry pain, and that’s part of what makes the character appealing.”
Heo also addressed the dating rumors that recently linked him to Hong Iseol, who appeared as a secretary in My Royal Nemesis and is known to have attended the same university as him.
“At first, I honestly thought it was really funny,” Heo said. “I laughed for a while. I never imagined I’d be caught up in dating rumors with her. Dating rumors themselves felt unfamiliar, but I also thought, ‘Wow, I didn’t think we could be linked like this.’ It was rather fascinating.”
He added with a laugh, “I kept thinking, ‘What connection do I even have with her?’ That’s why it was funny. At first, I didn’t think articles like that would even come out, but then I thought, ‘I guess I’ve made it. I’m getting dating rumors now.’”
