Gong Myung is sharing the story behind his buzzy kiss scene in Filing for Love.
Speaking about the kiss scene in Episode 4, Gong said, “We all liked it, and I was satisfied with it, too. Since the script described it as a moment where a man and woman instinctively collide, drawn together by some kind of force, it was one of the scenes I was really curious and thoughtful about. I wondered how we would film it and how it would come out.”
He added, “We filmed it as seriously as an action scene. Of course, it was important for the shot to look beautiful, but I thought it was even more important to capture that instinctive feeling.”
Gong said he and Shin Hae Sun talked through the scene carefully because the kiss between In Ah and Ki Joon was meant to feel sudden. “Even if their feelings had been building little by little, the kiss itself could still feel abrupt, so we filmed it with much discussion,” he explained.
After seeing the edited version, Gong said both he and Shin were pleased. “We watched it together and thought it came out well,” he said. “So I was looking forward to the reaction, and thankfully, viewers really liked it.”
Gong also expressed his affection and trust for Shin Hae Sun, his co-star in the drama. “Working with her was so great that I’d give it 120 out of 100,” he said. “When I first joined this project, I went in thinking about how much fun it would be to work with her.”
He continued, “Once I get comfortable, I’m the type to joke around a lot, and she played along with my jokes on set. We had great back-and-forth chemistry, and that naturally worked its way into our acting.”
Another scene that drew attention in Filing for Love was Gong’s shirtless moment. “I felt a lot of pressure,” he admitted, but explained that his decision to get in shape was less about the shirtless scene and more about looking right in suits for his office worker role.
He said he gained about 5 kg (11 lbs) before cutting 3 kg of body fat. Joking about the attention the scene received, Gong said, “I was loved thanks to the body I worked so hard to build. I did my best not to fall behind.”
Filing for Love wrapped its 12-episode run on May 31st.
