TVING has unveiled a new teaser poster for its upcoming drama Dear X following allegations of plagiarism. The controversy began after the release of the drama’s original poster, which many online critics compared to the poster of the Chinese remake of The Devotion of Suspect X.

The original Dear X poster, released on September 8th, featured the title in bright red letters against a white backdrop, with Kim Yoo Jung partially visible through a torn gap in the paper. Critics quickly pointed out that the design shared striking similarities with the The Devotion of Suspect X poster, particularly the use of the torn paper concept and similar color scheme.

After the allegations spread, the production team acknowledged the resemblance and admitted to Dispatch that they “belatedly recognized the similarity with a specific reference.” They confirmed on September 9th that the controversial poster would no longer be used, and it was promptly removed from social media and other platforms.

In response, TVING issued a public apology, with an official statement pledging to take precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future. “We will pay close attention to ensure that similar mistakes do not happen again, through a thorough review process,” a TVING spokesperson said.

Despite the controversy, anticipation for Dear X remains high. On September 9th, the drama team announced that all tickets for its screenings at the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) sold out immediately. At this year’s BIFF, select episodes of Dear X will be screened for the first time. Additionally, the cast will meet fans during outdoor stage greetings on September 18th and 19th.
