Ji Chang Wook revealed why he decided to star in drama Queen Woo during an interview about his upcoming series Gangnam B-Side.
In Queen Woo, Ji Chang Wook plays King Go Nam Moo of Goguryeo, a ruler known for his bravery and upright nature who ascended the throne with the trust of the previous king. Despite his brief appearance, Ji left a strong impression and once again proved his presence on screen.
However, the series faced criticism following its release, with controversy arising over its explicit content. Addressing the issue, Ji shared, “I filmed about 10 episodes. I became close with someone at the production company during a meeting, and they asked me to make a special appearance as the king. The character was so appealing that I couldn’t help but join the production. It was my first time wearing a beard for a historical drama, and I thought, ‘I want to play this role.’”
He continued, “Being involved for about 10 episodes felt less overwhelming, and the character’s charm made it irresistible. It was such a fun project that I even thought, ‘I wish they’d make a full series about the king.’ I remember taking so many selfies with my phone during filming. That’s why it’s a bit disappointing that external issues overshadowed the work itself.”
Ji Chang Wook also reflected on his recent and upcoming Disney Plus projects, including The Worst of Evil, Gangnam B-side, and his next project, Fabricated City. He shared, “Director Park Noo Ri sent me a photo showing our global ranking, and hearing we reached No. 1 globally felt great and humbling, though it hasn’t really sunk in.”
He humorously added, “The one pressure I do feel is that the next project has to be better than the previous ones. Since I’m working for Disney and getting paid, I feel a certain responsibility to deliver quality work.”
