Shin Mina’s longtime philanthropy is back in the spotlight after a story about her quietly donating more than 3.7 billion won (roughly $2.7 million) over 15 years began circulating online.
The viral post, titled “The 3.7 Billion Won That Quietly Left Shin Mina’s Bank Account Over 15 Years,” was reportedly written by a foundation official who said the actress had asked for her donations to remain private.
“At first, we thought the money had been transferred by mistake,” the post read. “Starting in 2009, large sums kept coming in every month, and we eventually found out they were from Shin Mina. She told us never to make it public and asked that the money be used for burn patients’ medical expenses and study rooms for children from low-income families.”
The post continued, “Over 15 years, she quietly donated more than 3.7 billion won. She really is an angel.”
The story is consistent with Shin’s well-documented history of charitable giving. Since 2009, her publicly reported donations have totaled more than 4 billion won.
She also marked her December 2025 wedding to actor Kim Woo Bin by giving back. The couple donated a combined 300 million won to several organizations, including the Hallym Burn Foundation, Asan Medical Center and Good Friends.
In recent interviews, Shin has explained that while she once preferred to keep her charity work private, she has come to believe that publicizing donations can encourage others to give as well.
“I used to think that when you did something good, you should do it quietly,” she said. “But I was told that when people with influence make their donations public, it encourages many more people to take part.”
She added, “I think people who have a little more to spare should help those who are going through difficult circumstances. When an article comes out about it, I just hope that even one person might be inspired to think about doing something good.”
