Han So Hee is opening up about how her approach to relationships has changed.
The actress appeared on the August 28th episode of the YouTube show Nothing Much Prepared, where she joined host Lee Young Ji for drinks and a candid conversation about love, dating and her ideal partner.
Asked what she looks for in someone, Han skipped physical traits and said she now prefers someone with a secure personality.
“I look for someone who’s emotionally secure,” she said. “I’m also trying to become more secure these days. I feel like if I become that kind of person, someone similar will eventually come into my life.”
Han said she has also learned to prioritize maintaining a strong sense of self within a relationship.
“If I take care of myself, then even if that person leaves, I’m still okay because I still have myself,” she explained. “They came into my life and then left. They didn’t abandon me. That’s how I try to think about it.”
She added that if she feels she isn’t receiving the level of affection she needs, she now tries to communicate rather than react emotionally.
“I might say, ‘This is what I consider love and attention, and I feel like what you’re giving me falls a little short. How about we both try to work on it?'” Han said.
But if the other person still isn’t willing to meet her halfway, she no longer tries to hold on.
“Then I just let it go,” she said. “I think, ‘Okay, things happen.’ And I fill whatever love is missing by giving it to myself.”
For Han, that means taking care of herself in everyday ways.
“I eat good food, see good things and just live my life,” she said. “The moment that person takes up more than half of my life, that’s when things start to fall apart. Keeping that balance is important.”
Han is currently preparing for the September 16th release of her film The Intern.
