SHINee member Taemin recently brought fans to tears as he brought up the late Jonghyun in an interview. His heart-warming answer reminded fans how hard it is for the star and how much he still thinks of his fellow member.

On July 3rd, Taemin met with UK content channel Flip Your Wig to reflect on his current accomplishments. Recently, Taemin was the first Korean male solo artist to perform at Coachella, and he also performed at the British Summer Time Hyde Park festival on June 28th, with a full 40-minute solo set for a crowd of over 65,000 people.

After the show, Taemin met with the host Max backstage to discuss his emotions and answered a few fun questions. She proceeded to ask Taemin, “If you could share a stage with any other artists, who would you want to share a stage with?” Taemin immediately replied, “Jonghyun.”

Taemin then continued, “He would have been such a great artist, and I would have loved to share the stage with him. I respect him so much.” Taemin didn’t seem to appear sullen or upset by the question but rather happy to recollect his former member. Jonghyun, who would now be 36 years old, took his own life back in 2017 and shocked the world with the news of his passing. The K-Pop scene became riddled with these issues between 2017-2020, making fans question the hardships idols go through regularly but fortunately bringing awareness to the mental health of Korean celebrities.

Taemin often brings up the belated member and works hard to honor his memory. Back in 2023,  Taemin performed The Ray’s song “Cleaning” on the YouTube series Lee Mujin Service, and later stated how Jonghyun used to practice singing this song intensely. It seems Jonghyun’s legacy can live on through the love of the SHINee members!

Fans commented on the heartfelt moment saying, “SHINee will always be 5” and “Taemin must really miss being on stage with him.” Fans also took the time to notice how much Taemin’s English improved saying, “I think this is his first full English interview,” and “Even though it is British English, he improved a lot and can speak so well!”
