Lim Ji Yeon is opening up about the challenges she faced early in her career despite making a highly buzzed-about debut.
A preview for next week’s episode of tvN’s You Quiz on the Block featured Lim Ji Yeon as a guest.
The actress is currently enjoying renewed popularity thanks to her role in SBS’s hit drama My Royal Nemesis. Referring to her recent success, host Yu Jae Seok joked, “I can’t stop smiling when I see how popular you are these days.”
Lim responded with a laugh, saying, “You have to strike while the iron is hot.”
She also revealed that she hopes to take on more comedy roles in the future.
“I want to try comedy. I’m actually pretty good at making people laugh,” she said.
Yu Jae Seok agreed, saying he had always found her funny. He even brought up a memorable scene from My Royal Nemesis in which her character suddenly grabbed a handful of grass and hit someone with it.
Lim then revealed that the moment was her own idea.
“That was my idea. I kept suggesting things on set, and I think the director eventually got tired of me,” she joked.
She also spoke about her co-star Heo Nam Jun, who has gained attention for his performance in the drama. Laughing, she teased him by saying, “The male lead in a romantic comedy has to look incredibly handsome. I’ve given up on competing with him. I always tell him, ‘Do you realize you’re getting all the good lighting right now?'”
Despite her recent success in projects such as The Glory and The Tale of Lady Ok, Lim admitted that her career did not immediately take off after her debut.
“I made a glamorous debut with Obsessed, but the next day I had no work lined up,” she recalled. “I still had to keep moving forward, but there were times when I wondered where I fit in and whether I was stuck in an awkward position.”
Her candid remarks drew attention from viewers ahead of the full interview.
