‘The WONDERfools’ Takes Over Netflix Korea and Breaks Into Global Top 10

Netflix series The WONDERfools is already making waves worldwide, topping Netflix Korea’s Today’s Top 10 Series chart and landing at No. 6 on the platform’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows list just three days after release. Along with the milestone, the streamer also unveiled a new set of behind-the-scenes stills from the series.

Set in 1999 at the turn of the millennium, The WONDERfools follows a group of unlikely small-town misfits who accidentally gain superpowers and band together to protect the world from villains threatening the peace. Since premiering on May 15th, the comedy-action adventure has recorded 2.7 million views in just three days, quickly climbing Netflix’s global rankings.

Beyond Korea, the series also entered the Top 10 charts in 25 countries including Hong Kong, India, the Philippines and Mexico, proving its growing international popularity.

Critics at home and abroad have been praising the series for its heartfelt humor, quirky characters and energetic chemistry. Korean outlet JoyNews24 wrote, “You can’t help but fall for the lovable charm of the ‘Wonderfools,’ who may be a little clumsy but ultimately save the world,” while TV Daily praised director Yoo In Sik’s “warm humanity, outstanding direction and the cast’s dazzling performances.”

International reviews have been just as enthusiastic. Decider called it “a fun and funny show about reluctant and misfit superheroes,” while India Today highlighted the series’ nostalgic Y2K atmosphere, saying the setting “gives the show texture, from the fashion to the atmosphere of impending catastrophe hanging over the town.” But Why Tho? added that the eight-episode series “wears its silliness on its sleeve and never lets go of that energy, making this an incredibly fun watch.”

Viewers have also been raving about the series online, with one fan writing, “The comedy, emotional moments, and even the unexpected romance all came together perfectly.” Another praised the show’s directing, saying, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen a series with direction this good. The CG looks high-quality too, and the comedy never feels too over-the-top.”

Others called the series “fresh” and “incredibly immersive,” while many couldn’t stop talking about the cast chemistry, with comments like, “The banter between the four leads is so hilarious,” “The team chemistry was amazing,” and “The actors fit their roles perfectly.”
