Cha Eun Woo will reportedly keep his military band position despite a complaint filed against him.
A petition was submitted through the National Petition system requesting a change to Cha Eun Woo’s military band assignment amid allegations of tax evasion.
According to the complainant, the Ministry of National Defense recently responded through the National Petition system, stating, “The individual does not meet the criteria for reassignment under Article 14 (Reassignment, etc.) of the Ministry of National Defense Personnel Management Order and will therefore maintain his current position.”
Earlier this January, reports claimed that Cha Eun Woo underwent an intensive investigation by the Seoul Regional Tax Office’s Investigation Bureau 4 over alleged tax evasion and was notified of a tax assessment exceeding 20 billion won (approximately $13.8 million), including income tax.
Addressing the controversy in April, Cha Eun Woo stated, “I respect the National Tax Service’s procedures and results, and I have paid all related taxes to prevent further confusion. I will faithfully cooperate with the remaining procedures.” He also apologized for causing concern.
His agency added, “Part of the amount paid is expected to be adjusted through the National Tax Service’s refund process, and according to our accountant, the final amount is expected to be around 13 billion won ($9 million).”
Meanwhile, Cha Eun Woo enlisted last July and is currently serving in the military band.
