
Hwang Seok Hee, a well-known English-to-Korean film translator, is facing controversy over past sexual offense allegations. He has said he plans to take legal action.
Dispatch reported three past cases involving Hwang Seok Hee on March 30th.
He allegedly harassed two women on the street in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, in 2005. Hwang Seok Hee claimed he was “mentally incapacitated due to severe intoxication” at the time.
He is also accused of attempting sexual assault and secretly filming a female student who was very drunk in 2014. It was revealed that he was prosecuted twice for injuries during an attempted indecent act and quasi-rape, ultimately receiving a suspended sentence.
Hwang Seok Hee is known for translating films such as Warm Bodies, Deadpool, the recent Project Hail Mary, and the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which is set to open on July 31th.
Responding to the allegations, he wrote on social media: “I am reviewing these matters with my lawyer. If any reported information is inaccurate or unverified, I will consider asking for corrections and taking action.”
