V is looking back on the path that led him to BTS.

On March 29th, V appeared on the YouTube show “Fairy Jaehyung,” where he opened up about his early ambitions, debut story and memories of his rookie days.

He shared that his love for performing started in childhood. “When I did silly dances, adults would clap and say I was cute. I really liked that, and it made me want to be on stage,” he said.

A comment from his grandmother helped shape that dream. V recalled, “There was a banner in Geochang with Kang Dong Won on it, and my grandmother pointed at it and said, ‘That’s who becomes a celebrity.’ I accepted it.” He added with a smile, “These days, I hear my face is on banners instead.”

He also revealed how he got serious about music. “In sixth grade, I told my dad I wanted to pursue it, and he said I should learn at least one instrument,” V explained. “I chose the saxophone strategically because I thought it would help me get into an arts high school, and I played for about four years starting in middle school.”

V shared an unexpected connection with his father as well. “I found out later that my dad also dreamed of becoming an entertainer. He even prepared to be a TV actor and worked as a floor director at Daegu MBC,” he said. “He thought working at a network would eventually lead to an opportunity. It didn’t work out for him, but it did for me,” he added with a laugh.

One of the most talked-about moments was his late reveal as a BTS member. When asked why he was introduced last despite joining early, V said, “I heard it was because they were worried another company would try to take me.”

He also reflected on BTS’s early days with gratitude. “At our first fan meeting, fewer than 30 people came, but it was still more than the number of members, so we were happy,” he said. “I was so touched that people came all that way just to see us.”

Looking back, he emphasized the role fans played in their rise. “It’s not something we built on our own. Fans promoted us first and worked so hard to create these opportunities for us,” he said. “That’s why I always want to live up to their expectations.”

For V, those early moments remain a reminder of what continues to drive him today.
