IU and Byeon Woo Seok once crossed paths years before becoming co-stars.
The two actors, who are set to lead the upcoming MBC Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown, were previously connected through the 2016 SBS drama Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
The historical fantasy series starred IU alongside Lee Joon Gi and Kang Ha Neul, and followed the story of a 21st-century woman whose soul travels back in time into the body of a young woman in the Goryeo dynasty, where she meets the fourth prince Wangso.
At the time, Byeon Woo Seok made a brief appearance in the modern-day portion of the drama. He played Ki Dong, IU’s boyfriend who cheated on her with her friend, marking the first time the two actors appeared in the same project.
The detail has recently resurfaced on online communities and social media, drawing renewed attention from fans.
Meanwhile, IU and Byeon Woo Seok have reportedly been spreading warmth on the set of Perfect Crown through acts of generosity toward the staff.
According to a March 12th report from Hankyung.com, IU gifted staff members 500,000 KRW (approx. 336 USD) worth of gift certificates during Chuseok. She also reportedly gave out Bluetooth speakers for Christmas, and held a year-end draw with prizes including pure gold and iPads.
Byeon Woo Seok also joined in the giving spirit. At the end of the year, he reportedly gifted staff long padded jackets and sneakers from a brand he models for. The sneakers were made even more special with the Perfect Crown logo engraved on them.
A filming staff member reportedly expressed admiration, saying, “It’s rare to see lead actors take such thoughtful care of the staff like this.”
