Joo Woo Jae and Ahn Jae Hyun took a trip down memory lane, recalling their early days roaming the streets of Myeongdong.
In a preview clip for the March 12th episode of the MBC show Where Is My Home, the two stars, along with Lim Won Hee, head to Myeongdong for a property tour while reminiscing about the neighborhood’s once-famous street fashion scene.
During the segment, old street photos of several now-famous figures—including Byeon Woo Seok, Joo Woo Jae, Han So Hee and Park Gyu Young—are revealed, drawing attention to the neighborhood’s role as a hub for aspiring models and actors.
Ahn Jae Hyun explained that one particular intersection in the area used to be a hotspot for street photographers. “People who dressed in really unique ways would just hang around there,” he said. “They had unique hairstyles and flashy outfits, so you couldn’t help but notice them.”
At the time, he said, it was difficult for newcomers to debut in fashion magazines, so many aspiring models targeted online magazines that were becoming popular.
Joo Woo Jae recalled getting photographed unexpectedly. “I was just passing through when someone stopped me and asked, ‘Can I take a photo of you?'” he said. “It was a stranger, so I made this awkward expression when they took the picture. Then the next week I came back and it happened again. I didn’t even know what it was, so I thought it was fascinating.”
A throwback photo shown during the segment featured Joo Woo Jae wearing tight skinny jeans paired with bold pink socks—a clear standout street-style look at the time.
Ahn Jae Hyun also shared his own memories from that era. “It felt strange if I came to Myeongdong and didn’t get a business card,” he said. “Entertainment agencies would hand them out to me all the time. If I didn’t get one, I’d wonder if something was wrong.”
