Singer Jo Hyun Ah got real about what it’s like being friends with some of the biggest names in the industry on the March 4th episode of MBC’s Radio Star. While she counts stars like Nana, P.O, and Lee Sung Kyoung among her inner circle, she addressed the common misconception that she has to “work” to keep those A-list connections.
“People often think you have to buy expensive gifts or cater to celebrities to be close to them,” she joked. “But the truth is, most of them were actually my fans first!”
The conversation took an emotional turn when Jo Hyun Ah spoke about her “ride or die” best friend, Bae Suzy. She shared that Suzy isn’t just a friend; she’s a protector. “Suzy is incredibly kind-hearted,” she explained. “If I don’t pick up her calls, she’ll actually show up at my front door just to make sure I’m okay.”
Jo Hyun Ah then shared a powerful story from the most difficult time of her life: the sudden passing of her mother.
“Suzy stayed by my side for the entire three-day funeral,” she recalled. “Even though the room was full of people who recognized her, she never left my side. She even came with me to the burial site and stayed to pray. Her support was what truly helped me start to heal.”
She capped off the tribute by calling Suzy her “guardian angel,” noting that their bond goes far deeper than just being “celebrity friends.” As for her secret to maintaining such high-profile friendships? Jo Hyun Ah says it’s all about the ears, not the invite list.
“I focus on being a good listener instead of trying to hit every party,” she said. “That’s why people feel safe opening up to me when things get tough.”
