Coupang Play has officially greenlit its new original series Affair Is Not the Issue Now (literal title), locking in an all-star cast led by Kim Hye Soo, Cho Yeo Jeong, Kim Ji Hoon and Kim Jae Chul.
The high-concept black comedy centers on two neighboring couples whose lives spiral after becoming entangled in secrets far more explosive than infidelity. One couple is a famous influencer duo who sell the image of a perfect family. Next door lives a doctor couple in the middle of a brutal divorce. When their worlds collide, chaos follows.
Kim Hye Soo stars as Gyeong Hui, a driven interior design CEO and top influencer hungry for even greater success. Cho Yeo Jeong plays Su Jeong, a dermatology clinic director who will endure anything to protect her only daughter.
Kim Ji Hoon takes on the role of Jae Hong, Gyeong Hui’s husband and an actor living in the shadow of his wife’s success, while Kim Jae Chul plays Bo Seong, Su Jeong’s ex-husband, a man willing to cross any line to regain custody of his child.
Though the story initially appears to revolve around an affair, deeper and more dangerous secrets quickly surface, pulling all four characters into an escalating chain of collisions.
Following the table read, Kim Hye Soo said, “Everything felt unique, from the storytelling to the characters and the ensemble.” Cho Yeo Jeong added, “What begins as one incident turns into a tense, fast-moving farce driven by the cast’s chemistry.”
Kim Ji Hoon called the project “fresh and unpredictable,” while Kim Jae Chul promised to deliver “the same thrill I felt when I first read the script.”
The series is directed by Lee Chang Hee of Strangers From Hell and A Killer Paradox and produced by Firstman Studio, co-founded by Squid Game creator Hwang Dong Hyuk, who also serves as showrunner.
Affair Is Not the Issue Now is set to premiere on Coupang Play in 2026.
