Ahn Hyo Seop made a splash on U.S. television, showcasing his fluent English and wit during a guest appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The actor appeared alongside co-star Arden Cho to promote the Netflix animated hit K-Pop Demon Hunters, in which he voices the lead character, Jinwoo.

Host Jimmy Fallon introduced the film with high praise, noting its massive success. “It is one of the biggest films in Netflix’s history, having garnered over 500 million views,” Fallon said. “And it even won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film yesterday.”

Ahn Hyo Seop shared his honest first impression of the project, drawing laughs from the audience. “When I first saw the title, I thought it would either be very interesting or very strange,” he admitted. “I had never seen a setting that combined K-pop and demon hunting anywhere before.”

However, the script won him over. “I was certain that children would love it because it was really fun, playful, and contained a good message,” he explained. Referencing his own childhood love for the movie Frozen, he added, “I know how much meaningful animation can impact children. It felt special to be on the opposite side and be able to return that message.”

Ahn also offered a thoughtful take on his character. “Rather than viewing Jinwoo as a demon, I saw him as someone who made a mistake at an inopportune time,” he said. “I wanted to convey the message that to overcome mistakes, one must accept themselves as they are and move forward.”

He also touched on his musical contribution, having covered the song ‘Free’ from the film’s soundtrack. “I wanted to give back to the fans,” he said, before confessing with a smile, “Honestly, deep down, I wanted to sing directly in the movie.”

A highlight of the night came when Ahn and Arden Cho spontaneously reenacted a famous scene from the film, earning cheers from the crowd. Despite recording their voice roles separately and meeting only for the second time virtually, the duo displayed perfect chemistry.

Ahn Hyo Seop has also appeared on NBC’s flagship morning program, the TODAY Show, on January 13th.
