On December 16th, a recent video uploaded to YouTube channel Channel Fullmoon featured Lee Dong Hwi and Go Kyung Pyo, who sat down with producer Na Young Seok to reminisce about Reply 1988 and share behind-the-scenes stories from the beloved drama.
During the conversation, Na Young Seok revealed that the cast had gone on a one-night, two-day trip to mark the drama’s 10th anniversary. “All of the Ssangmun-dong family showed up—no one was missing,” he explained. “Ryu Jun Yeol also stopped by briefly in the morning before leaving for his filming schedule that day.”
In other words, while Ryu Jun Yeol wasn’t able to stay for the entire MT, he still made time—despite a packed schedule—to show his face and celebrate the milestone with the cast. This directly contradicts earlier speculation that he had deliberately avoided the gathering.
Ryu Jun Yeol and Hyeri famously became a couple after starring in Reply 1988, publicly dating for about seven years before breaking up in 2023. In 2024, dating rumors involving Ryu Jun Yeol and Han So Hee sparked renewed attention after Hyeri posted a cryptic post on her Instagram, fueling further buzz. Against that backdrop, some fans had questioned whether Ryu Jun Yeol’s limited presence at the 10th anniversary trip was related to his past with Hyeri.
However, Na Young Seok’s clarification makes it clear that Ryu Jun Yeol didn’t turn his back on the meaningful reunion—he was simply constrained by his filming commitments.
Meanwhile, even a decade after its original broadcast, Reply 1988 continues to be remembered as a classic, cherished for both its storytelling and the enduring friendship among its cast.
