Jung Chae Yeon is officially stepping into a role once made legendary by Shin Eun Ha.

According to a report on December 4th, Jung Chae Yeon has been cast as the lead of the upcoming OTT series M: Reboot.

The project is a reimagining of M, the 10-episode summer horror special that aired on MBC in 1994 and became a cultural phenomenon for its bold theme addressing the ethics of abortion. The original series achieved a peak rating of 50% and averaged an astonishing 38.6%.

Shin Eun Ha, who starred in the original, skyrocketed to fame that year with both M and the MBC drama The Last Match. Her character’s green eyes and chilling voice as “M” remain iconic to this day.

M: Reboot will be adapted into a modern sci-fi horror thriller aimed at the global market in 2025. Production is handled by Big Ocean ENM, the company behind hit dramas like Reborn Rich and Our Beloved Summer. The story was also staged as a musical in 2022.

Jung Chae Yeon debuted in 2015 as a member of the girl group DIA. In 2016, she became a final member of I.O.I through Mnet’s Produce 101 and made her acting debut in tvN’s Drinking Solo. Most recently, she earned praise for her role as rookie attorney Kang Hyo Min in the drama Beyond The Bar.

With M: Reboot, Jung Chae Yeon now takes on one of Korean TV’s most unforgettable roles—and all eyes are on how she will reinvent it for a new era.
