Kim Ji Won has selected her next project after the smash hit Queen of Tears, stepping into the title role of the exhilarating hero in the upcoming SBS drama Doctor X: Era of the White Mafia (literal title). On the 18th, SBS officially confirmed the casting of Kim Ji Won, Lee Jung Eun, Son Hyun Joo, and Kim Woo Seok.

Doctor X is a medical noir drama about Gye Soo Jung, a surgeon who takes down the corrupt medical power structure by doing what she does best—operating. A doctor who “fixes doctors,” she proves what it truly means to be a physician through sheer skill alone.

Kim Ji Won will play the titular Doctor X, Gye Soo Jung, a top-tier surgeon from Jang Hee Sook’s doctor-dispatch agency. She is dispatched to fill a critical vacancy in the surgical department at Guseo University Hospital. Known as the “mad dog of the operating room,” she exposes the rot of medical corruption on the surgical table. With hit roles in Queen of Tears, My Liberation Notes, and Descendants of the Sun, Kim Ji Won is expected to deliver another standout performance.

Lee Jung Eun will play Jang Hee Sook, the head of the doctor-dispatch agency that values profit above all. Though she appears loud, flashy, and materialistic, she cleverly uses that persona as part of her business strategy.

Son Hyun Joo joins as Boo Seung Kwon, the director of Guseo University Hospital’s branch facility, a man trying to rebuild a collapsing institution. Rising actor Kim Woo Seok plays Park Tae Kyung, a privileged intern whose carefully planned hospital life goes off the rails after meeting Gye Soo Jung. The only son of a major regional hospital owner, Tae Kyung is warm-hearted and sincere.

SBS’s Doctor X is slated to premiere in 2026.
