Shosei Ohira of the popular J-pop group JO1 and Shizuku of the rookie girl group ME:I have both suspended all group activities. The move comes after a Japanese tabloid accused Ohira of cheating on his non-celebrity girlfriend with Shizuku.
On October 15th, the weekly magazine Shukan Bunshun reported that Ohira was “leading a double life,” maintaining a relationship with Shizuku while also dating another woman.
In a swift response, both of their agencies announced the suspensions. Ohira’s agency, Lapone Entertainment, stated, “It was discovered that Shosei Ohira was involved in an issue that violated company rules… a serious act that betrays the trust of his fans. Therefore, he will suspend his activities for the time being.”
Shizuku’s agency, Lapone Girls, also apologized to fans and announced her suspension, stating they would do a better job of managing their artists.
Both groups were formed through the popular Produce 101 Japan survival show franchise. JO1 is an 11-member boy group formed in 2019, while ME:I is a 9-member girl group that was formed in 2023.
