Newly married singer and TV star Kim Jong Kook is back to work, and his Running Man castmates are sharing all the sweet and hilarious details from his recent top-secret wedding.
The latest episode of the hit SBS variety show, which aired on Sunday, was filmed just three days after Kim Jong Kook tied the knot, making it the first time he’s spoken publicly about his wife and their big day. The cast all attended the ceremony and held nothing back.
With Kim Jong Kook’s wife being a non-celebrity, the cast tried their best to describe her for the audience in a hilarious segment. Cha Tae Hyun drew a portrait of the bride, describing her as “elegant, with beautiful eyes.”
Fellow cast member Jee Seok Jin immediately jumped in with some corrections. “Her eyes aren’t monolids, and her face is more slender,” he pointed out, prompting Cha Tae Hyun to touch up the drawing to the laughter of everyone on set.
When host Yoo Jae Suk casually asked what his wife was up to, Kim Jong Kook replied with a smile, “She’s on vacation at home.”
The wedding featured some very personal musical performances. Yoo Jae Suk revealed that Kim Jong Kook himself sang a celebratory song for his own bride. But he wasn’t the only one.
“Cha Tae Hyun also performed a congratulatory song,” Yoo Jae Suk added.
Cha Tae Hyun explained the funny story behind his performance. “I arrived an hour before the wedding and saw Jong Kook rehearsing a song for the first time,” he shared. “Then, he suddenly asked me to sing too. It was a sudden request. I sang ‘I LOVE YOU’, without any practice.” The performance was so touching that cast members Yang Se Chan and HaHa confessed, “Knowing their friendship, we shed tears when Cha Tae Hyun sang.”
The cast also hilariously exposed Kim Jong Kook’s reaction to their cash wedding gifts—a common custom in South Korea. Yoo Jae Suk kicked off the topic, saying, “Today, I saw Kim Jong Kook getting angry at Yang Se Chan and Choi Daniel, saying, ‘Are you crazy? Why did you give so much gift money?’ He even got angry at me.”
Kim Jong Kook agreed, “That’s right. They gave too much, especially since they also helped emcee the wedding.”
Yoo Jae Suk then cheekily added, “But he told Jee Seok Jin, ‘Thank you, Seok Jin,” which made Kim Jong Kook genuinely flustered.
Jee Seok Jin protested, “I gave the most I’ve ever given in my life!” Kim Jong Kook then had to clarify, “That’s true. He gave a lot, but those guys gave way too much.”
Proving his famous work ethic is as strong as ever, Kim Jong Kook postponed his honeymoon to participate in the scheduled filming, having previously told producers, “The show comes before the honeymoon.”
