An agency has publicly denied reports that it signed an exclusive contract with actress Song Da Eun, just as she finds herself at the center of a massive controversy involving BTS member Jimin.
The situation came after a Korean media outlet reported on August 27th that Song Da Eun had signed with Merry-Go-Round Company. However, the agency quickly refuted the claim.
In a statement to Star News, Merry-Go-Round Company clarified, “We have not signed an exclusive contract with Song Da Eun.” They explained that the relationship was misunderstood, stating, “Song Da Eun is one of our TikTok agency crew members, and it appears this was mistakenly reported as an exclusive contract.”
The agency added that they have been unable to get in touch with her since the controversy began, saying, “We have been unable to reach Song Da Eun since this morning.”
Song Da Eun posted a TikTok video that seemed to show a private moment with Jimin, sparking dating rumors between them once again. The actress, who rose to fame on Heart Signal 2 in 2018, stirred buzz as many saw the video as hinting at a long-rumored relationship.
Her acting work has been paused since her last role in the 2022 drama The Golden Spoon. She is now reportedly struggling to be cast in new projects or advertising campaigns due to her solidified negative image as a “controversial figure.”
The primary issue for brands and production companies is the significant risk associated with hiring her. The potential for boycotts and waves of malicious comments stemming from her public conflict with the BTS fandom (ARMY) has made her a difficult choice for many in the industry.
The situation is made more precarious by the fact that she currently has no agency representing her. As a result, Song Da-eun’s ability to repair her public image is now seen as the crucial factor in whether her entertainment career can survive the fallout.
