Korean star power is set to light up the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. Han So Hee, Jeon Jong Seo, and director Lee Hwan will attend TIFF’s Special Presentations section for the world premiere of Project Y, while director Yeon Sang Ho, Park Jung Min, Kwon Hae Hyo, Shin Hyun Been, and more will bring The Ugly to the same lineup.

Project Y tells the story of Mi Sun and Do Kyung, two people with nothing but each other, who decide to steal hidden black money and gold bars in a desperate bid to escape their harsh reality. Han So Hee—known globally for dramas like Gyeongseong Creature, My Name, and Nevertheless—and Jeon Jong Seo—who broke out in Lee Chang Dong’s Burning and has since starred in The Call and Bargain—are expected to draw heavy international attention.

On September 10th (local time), the cast and director will walk the red carpet ahead of the film’s first public screening at the 1,721-seat Princess of Wales Theatre. The event will include a post-screening Q&A. The following day, another screening and Q&A will take place at Scotiabank Theatre, giving more festivalgoers a chance to engage with the filmmakers.

Also in the Special Presentations lineup, The Ugly will make its world premiere on September 9th and 10th. The film follows Im Young Kyu, a blind craftsman who has mastered the art of traditional seals, and his son Dong Hwan as they uncover the 40-year-old mystery behind the death of his mother. The TIFF presentation will feature director Yeon Sang Ho alongside lead actors Park Jung Min, Kwon Hae Hyo, Shin Hyun Been, Lim Seong Jae, and Han Ji Hyeon.

The Ugly will hit Korean theaters this September, while Project Y will premiere domestically after its TIFF debut.
