Yoon Si Yoon has opened up for the first time about a painful chapter from his childhood—one in which he wasn’t allowed to call his mother “Mom.”
The emotional revelation came at the end of the August 10th episode of SBS’s My Little Old Boy, where the actor embarked on a trip to Mongolia with his mother.
In the preview, Yoon greets a woman in a white dress with a warm “Mom,” drawing surprised reactions in the studio. The cast marveled at her youthful looks and envied the upcoming mother-son travel story.
As the two enjoyed Mongolia’s sweeping landscapes and later shared a quiet meal together, Yoon reflected on his upbringing. “When you became an adult, you had to start working right away because of me,” he began. His mother admitted she became a mother at a very young age, saying, “That’s why I don’t even know when you took your first steps. I missed so much of your growing up.”
She went on to share, “Back then, I told you not to call me ‘Mom’ in front of customers.” Yoon recalled never properly calling her “Mom” as a child, confessing, “As a kid, that really hurt me.” His mother tearfully replied, “I truly feel so sorry to you, even now,” before breaking down in tears.
Yoon Si Yoon recently joined My Little Old Boy and has also drawn attention for losing 10 kilograms (about 22 pounds) in preparation for his role in SBS’s Taxi Driver 3.
